Welcome to Sanctuary Farm

Where kind people share a piece of paradise

Nestled in the scenic Whangaehu Valley, Sanctuary Farm is a beloved campsite run by Matt and Kim — a warm, generous couple who opened their land to travellers and haven't stopped welcoming the world since.

What began as an old country school has become a peaceful retreat where the rugby field turns into your home for the night, goats nuzzle up for treats, and the wood-fired hot tub steams under a ceiling of stars.

Guests who plan one night end up staying three. We think you'll understand why.

What Awaits You

Simple pleasures, beautifully done

Wood-Fired Hot Tub

Sink into a wood-heated spa pool and gaze up at the clearest night skies you've ever seen. Matt will stoke it up for you.

Campfire & BBQ

Gather around a crackling campfire under the stars. Use the BBQ to cook up a feast — there's no better dining room than this valley.

Free WiFi

Stay connected if you need to, or leave it all behind. Either way, the views from the hilltops are the best kind of screen.

The Sanctuary Experience

Off the beaten track — worth every turn

The Whangaehu Valley Road is one of those routes that rewards the curious. Winding through the rolling Whanganui hill country, it leads to a hidden world that feels entirely removed from the everyday.

Climb the surrounding hills for panoramic views over the valley. Let the animals wander over. Help with the evening feed. If you're lucky, you might even find Matt and Kim around the campfire for a yarn.

25 minutes from Ohakune and Waiouru. One hour from Whanganui. A world away from ordinary.
